PRACTICAL GUIDES

Small shortcuts that give your time back

Five practical ways to make everyday digital tasks easier.

Everyday stationery and a calculator on a light desk

Start with the task, not the app

Before opening a new application, identify the one thing you need: a word count, a unit conversion, or a smaller image. A focused browser tool can often finish that job without a longer setup.

Check a draft before you send it

Use a word counter to check length requirements and get a rough reading-time estimate. Review the actual text too: a count cannot tell you whether the message is clear.

Compare prices on the same basis

A percentage discount is only part of the picture. Calculate the discounted price, then account for taxes, shipping, and other costs separately.

Keep your original images

Compress a copy rather than replacing the original. Check the result at a useful size and choose a balance between quality and file size.

Write down the units

Make source and destination units explicit before converting. Confirm whether a figure refers to length, weight, or temperature, and check the final unit alongside the number.

Reuse the result thoughtfully

Copy or download only when you have reviewed the output. For important financial or academic work, independently check the formula and your institution’s rules.
